Little things

I was up late reading The Kitchen Front for my book club. I’m part of a book club… I feel so fancy. Anyways, it’s a story about four women with varied backgrounds in Britain during World War II in a food competition using food rationing that has been forced on them from the war. It’s a good read. But it has left me feeling very grateful for my life circumstances- married to a kind loving man, not being in the middle of a world war, having a safe place to call home, and the choice and freedom I have in life that women did not at that time.

In my reflection of my blessings, I walked in my room and smiled when I found my bed covered in evidence that I live with children.

A T-Rex standing guard and a two original drawings by Ruby. The drawing on the left is Marc, our new baby that’s coming this November, and me. Ruby always draws us as a happy family, and I like to think that says something about her home life. (Except for the time Ruby was very mad at me and drew the picture with me with big red x’s for eyes 😂) The picture on the right is a red T-Rex for Levi. Because he loves dinosaurs theses days. He is especially found of T-Rex.

How lucky am I to have these three, soon to be four, as my own? I just feel blessed with a happy full heart. And I need to keep that blessed feeling for days when I feel very overwhelmed that I will soon be in charge of raising 4. So I needed to document the Dino and pictures that won’t always be left in my room to greet me at the end of a day. Being a mother is the best, hardest, most rewarding thing I have ever done. I hope to be a good one.
