Wednesday for the holiday we drove up to Dallas to spend it with the Smiths!

Hooray!! And an impromptu dance party and sing-a-long to Vivo commenced. Not surprisingly, the excitement was all lead by Marc and Jaron.

Then to ensure that sleeping would happen that evening, we went to the park and ran the kids.

Then we headed back to the Smith’s for some hot soup and a backyard movie.

Its pretty magical how our kids line up so nicely and they just play and play and play pretend all together. Levi and Carson would have little spats now and again, but sharing is hard when you are two.

I’ve never been totally away from family for thanksgiving or done so much heavy lifting in the big meal, and I was really proud of Shelly and I for the high quality turkey day spread that we prepared. Long story short: we are awesome.
Thursday morning we got dressed and headed out for a mile long turkey fun run. And it was blustery and nippy! I seriously underestimated Dallas fall mornings. But true to the name, it really was fun and a nice little run. Then the big kids played at the park while to two two-year-olds ate themselves silly on baby oranges.

Later that afternoon, we had everyone in the family room and we took turns listing things we are grateful for, writing them down on the turkey feathers, and then decorating our gratitude turkey with them. Gratitude items included: family, mom who takes such good care of me (Hazel, you are so sweet and make my mama heart melt sometimes), Jesus, chocolate, cars that takes us to friends and family, books, swords (Levi), learning at home with mom (Ruby).

Then we sent the kids and dads outside while we finished prepping.

To finish out the festivities we had a fantastic morning together exploring the gorgeous Dallas arboretum.
