We are not regular moms…

We are cool moms.

Marc and a bunch of guys from the neighborhood went out for wings and to see the latest Fast and Furious movie. Why? Because we are not in quarantine and the movie theaters are actually open again. Duh.

So I wanted to make some fun plans too with my herd of hooligans. And Christina was feeling the same way. So we decided on going to the new ice cream shop and staying up to watch the fireflies come out. (Please note: both families normally have a pretty strict bed time of 7 and fireflies don’t come out till after sun set which is at 8:40).

We loaded up our two swagger wagons (minivans) and got ice cream at the the Heritage Creamery. There were many used sample spoons, giggles, a decent amount of tears, and after all the bowls were licked clean we made it out of Heritage.

The Walker’s elementary school was just down the road so all the kids loaded up in my van and we surfed over. The 90 second drive was nothing but the loudest squeals and giggles from Georgie and Levi. The older sisters tried to talk over the babies, and Violet finally shouted over the noise, “I have very sensitive EARS and SKIN!!” I just turned the music up louder chucked to myself.

South Bosque Elementary has the dreamiest playground ever. We did all the playground things while we waited for the sun to set. At dusk, Christina and I were getting worried that Greg was right and that firefly season was over. Grr. Then when we were just about to pack up our kids we saw one. Ahh! And we screamed and jumped like high school girls with excitement.

And the kids were off… everyone ran in the growing darkness to catch the bit of glowing magic in the trees.

I didn’t think we would actually catch anything, but they did.

Then Christina blared the Firefly song while we got buckled up and we headed home, everyone was up well past their bed time and very happy.
