One of the best things about the start of Summer in Texas is fireflies.
They come out right at twilight and are all but gone by the time evening has really set in, there is a perfect magic sweet spot.
So throwing bed time out the window, we let the kids stay up to see it. We went to Hewitt Park, where it has a paved half mile loop in the back. I held Levi snuggled in on me, Hazel rode on Marc’s shoulders, and Ruby walked in the middle commentating with complete awe the view around us. And little nervously told us how she “saw a spider scurried across the path.” When Hazel spotted her first firefly from her car window she shouted, “It’s so MAGICAL!!” And Levi whispered in little happy mumbling as he took it all in from his happy perch.
I was a little surprised at the hushed silence we watched and walked around the park’s loop watching the fireflies twinkle and go out and keeping an eye out for frogs on the sidewalk. When Marc and I started making small talk, the girls hushed us and we happily kept going on together taking in the moment. Just like the fireflies, I wished I could of captured this little family moment in a mason jar to keep forever.
