A reunion and a decade at a glance

We went to Marc’s ten year high school reunion! #MesaHigh Fun fact: Marc and I met our senior year. Unknown to him at the time, I nick named him ‘Cute Cute Marc Johnson’ the night we met and he has been listed in my phone like that ever since. So it’s totally normal for my kids to say, “Hey Siri, call Cute Cute Marc Johnson.”

Doesn’t he look so handsome in his new blazer and button up?!?

Originally, not enough people bought tickets to have it at a venue, so our friend Thomas Whipple offered his house. AND he lives in what use to be the old Poston Jr High Seminary building. So I was really excited to see what it looks like now, since I went to seminary in that building. (I’m so glad you only have to do ninth grade once in your life)

Thomas, Marc, and Abby. Marc has known Thomas since elementary school and Abby since Jr High and she was one of his first real crushes. For obvious reasons. She is as brilliant as she is beautiful.

Marc and some old choir buddies sang Lean On Me. And it was totally awesome! They were all serious power house voices and rocked it a cappella. (Insert quality Pitch Perfect quote here). They also sang Mesa High’s fight song, which cough couch… it more like a lullaby. And Jon and I casually took a step back when everyone started forming a traditional circle and swaying while singing. I love Jon.

There was karaoke, corn hole, a taco lady, a huge spread of food, and an open bar. With a few friends we came up with a back up plan in case everyone else got too sloshed or if we were ready to head out. The plan was to go to Joe’s BBQ’s ice cream joint. (Prickly pear ice cream mmmmmm so good). The code sign was to pretend to lick an ice cream cone. As seen below:

The purple light wasn’t particular flattering on anyone, but we were too busy being nostalgic to really notice

Abby and I laughing as Marc and Thomas sang karaoke to Love Shack. Thomas had one too many at this point and had all the confidence in the world to really go for those high notes. #nailedit

Maddi and Marc have been friends since kindergarten! And they can go at it like siblings. I met Maddi at a party senior year and instantly bonded over our freaky, loud, random hiccups. When I saw her getting down on the dance floor at Mesa High’s prom I knew I needed this girl in my life. She became one of my dearest friends at ASU. I wrote her on her mission in Chicago. And she made it home the day before Marc and I got married to be one of my bridesmaids. She caught the bouquet at my wedding. And I was one of her bridesmaids. She came to the hospital every time I had a baby. She was the friend I called when Jenny died. And would go on evening walks with me while I was curbing and going on hormonal pregnant rants. And now we have our two baby boys to grow up and be best friends.

I met Abby our senior year at Mesa High’s prom. She went out of her way to be kind and inclusive. I thought she was the coolest and instantly wanted to be her friend. She lives in Utah now but we are always excited to see her and Preston when they come to town.

It’s also my ten year, but my school wasn’t throwing one. But it was nice to do a Decade Review:
