Selfesteem lessons from Ruby

Tonight, we went swimming ( Ruby danced around the pool. Dipped her fingers in and played with the pool noodles. And Hazel splashed as I held her on the first step. Marc threw Hyrum in and lounged on the pool chair as Ruby shot everyone with a water gun. Swimming with a 2 year old who has decided she doesn’t like getting in the water and an almost 1 year old who is deciding she quite enjoying the pool).

Then we all went and bounced on the trampoline, giggles ensued. Then Ruby wanted to go down the slide. She has been practicing climbing the jungle gym ladder to get the slide all by her self. She has been doing it with close parental supervision, because I’m kinda of freaked out she is going to slip and split her chin open but let her keep at it because she has a good track record, is still cautious, and learning to climb is a critical step in childhood (at least intel myself). But she climbed she said “Mom, you watching?” And “hey Dad, you watching?!” We affirm. She got to the top and slid down and stuck the landing. She cheered, jumped and celebrated. She was so proud of her self. And she cheered the next six times she went up and then down. It made me think, I need to learn to celebrate my own accomplishments too.

I think Ruby is amazing. And I know Ruby thinks she is too.
